Sam Fender has donated the entirety of his £25k honor winnings to the trust for venues, which operates to protect the Britain's small concert spaces.

The star was given the prize on October 16 as his latest record his work was chosen as the outstanding release of the previous year.

The musician has opted to give the cash to the MVT, in acknowledgment of the vital role local spots had in his beginning days.

"I personally would not have achieved my current career if it hadn't been for all the performances I played around the North East, and beyond, when I was beginning," remarked Fender. "These venues are legendary, but they are in difficulty."

Since the start of 2023, at least 150 of these locations have ceased operations – roughly one-sixth of the whole industry in the UK.

Over the past year, top acts like Pulp, the group Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the trust in its attempts to keep the scene afloat, by including a small levy to their ticket prices, which benefits local stages.

He also took part, generating more than £100,000 on his recent tour to support 38 grassroots venues across Britain.

The donation helped spaces that were facing imminent closure due to difficulties arising from floods, blazes and bereavements, as well as regulatory hurdles, court cases and sound issues.

Some locations received financial assistance in improving amenities and technical equipment that positively impacted performers and audiences.

"The notion that revenue from shows in major spaces supports the independent spots, where it kicks off for performers like me, is just logical," Fender has said.

Fender is among several artists to donate his honor prize money to good deeds.

Back when they won the trophy in 1996 for their release their work, frontman Cocker stated that the group would give their winnings to the organization the charity.

In 2002, musician she split her award between a few charities, like the NSPCC and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"And I contributed a grand to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics program, because I trained in gymnastics when I was a child and they required updated gear," the artist told the media.

Two years ago, the band contributed their funds to the community center that supported their band, alongside other grassroots music organisations.

Also 1994 winners the group donated their award to a multiple sclerosis charity after a friend was found to have the illness.

"Winning was sufficient," stated singer the singer. "The cash was the extra but we could do without the cherry, because we had the honor. So our success impacted another person's life."

In the past week, the MVT revealed it had protected several local spots in the South East, by placing them under public stewardship.

The first in the city and the other in the city were bought under the public acquisition initiative, which is supported by the arts council and music fans who acquire "ownership units" in the properties.
